So last night was pretty boring, but things got a teensy bit more exciting around 3AM – fairly powerful contractions kicked in, necessitating the application of some sweet sweet drugs (Stadol). This got mommy-to-be a little more sleep until they wore around 6am.
A quick test revealed little dilation from the previous night, much to everyone’s disappointment, except the contracts, who kept on keeping on. The epidural was attached around 8:15 and another check showed Kandace to be 8cm dilated, which is just silly.
So now Kandace is drugged up a resting relatively peacefully. And now we get to wait.
Update: The just came in and upped the pictosin dose.
Update 2: The doctor is going to break the water around 10:30AM
As scheduled, we arrived at the hospital at 5PM. Unfortunately, millions of babies are apparently hurtling forth today and they hospital was filled to the brim with the little bundles of terror joy, leading to us having to wait for 2 hours just to get a room. I can only assume that had Kandace gone into labor, they would have cleaned out a janitorial closet or perhaps offered up the nurses’ station instead of leaving us to our own devices in the visitor’s lounge.
After another hour or so, a quick test determined that we didn’t need the initial procedure that was schedule, and Kandace is receiving a low dose of pictosin tonight and then a full dose tomorrow night.
Everybody is happy and healthy and we’re still on track for arrival tomorrow!
Finally got the nursery painted and furnished. There’s a bunch of hand made stuff (sheets, window dressings, quilt on the hope chest and the mobile’s coverings) made by the mothers in laws.

I just returned from the birth of a new life, that being the son of my cousin, Missy. Jaden was 7lbs, 4oz and born at 5:35PM EST. Apparently the labor process started at 2am and involved all sorts of shenanigans including a umbilical cord choking (everything turned out ok) and an accidental epidural self overdose. A lot of the family got together and we polished off a bottle of Booker’s bourbon in the waiting area. Mom looked exhausted, dad looked ecstatic, and baby looked healthy.
We’ve got 2 more babies on the way – my cousin Brad’s wife and my own wife are both due in the first half of June. It’s going to be a interesting 5 months.
New pictures of the parasite baby are up.
